TWO WHEELED NEWSLETTER
AUGUST 2008

In a speech in front
of 84,000 at Invesco Fieldhouse in Denver, Colarado, Barack Obama accepted the
nomination to the Democratic Party in
historic fashion. The speech was based in policy and promise, and to the ears
of Two Wheeled Foundation, it was a pledge to spend $150 Billion in alternative
and renewable energy sources that was most powerful. Embracing
alternative energy sources and promoting conservation in communities
of over consumption is a critical message Two Wheeled Foundation willy carry as it pedals
forward.
With its financial and technical support, TWF aims to strengthen programs which use bicycles and pedal power to ignite social and economic growth at the local level. Balancing energy outputs will be a critical element as we adapt to a changing climate
and other challenges of the 21st century.
Specifically, with
Pedal Power Africa and the Cycle for Health Initiative, TWF aims to capitalize
on the abundance and diversity of bicycle powered ideas to energize rural African
communities which have underdeveloped transportation infrastructures, limited
economic means to access cars and are in dire need to mobilize resources in their
community.The mobilization of
people, goods, and information will be an instrument of social change on a
variety of levels and is the core vision of TWF's long term goals.

Finally, It was with great
delight that TWF spotlights the Bikes for Peace program implemented United
Nations Development Programme in
Northern Uganda. Delivering 500 bicycles into Northern Uganda, where armed conflict has separated families, scattered
resources, and disrupted the peaceful way of life, is a quentessential example of pedal power in action. It is this type of community impact, with a social entrepreneurship twist, which will drive Two Wheeled Foundation programs in innovation and grassroots change.
I look forward to the months ahead as the pedal power revolution continues.
